Pura Belpré arrived in Ny city in 1921 and learned a need to connect the expanding Hispanic communities across the city’s boroughs. As among the list of 1st bilingual assistants employed from the Ny Community Library, Belpré found fertile ground for bilingual cuentos folklóricos (folkloric stories) from her native Puerto Rico. Belpré wrote an
